Kathmandu काठमाडौं

Kathmandu, the capital and second largest city in Nepal, is densely populated with high poverty rate of one of the poorest country in the world. Clinging to the seismically unstable Himalayas, Kathmandu suffers from geographic disadvantage of frequent earthquakes, making it hard for people to get out of poverty. With the lack of economic and social infrastructures to fight continuous disasters, Kathmandu has half of its population living below poverty line, of which two thirds below extreme poverty line. Many children in Kathmandu are neglected, and their basic education has been compromised.

M.Y. Yu Foundation has invested resources in working with local groups on providing basic art classes embedded into existing courses. Although limited resources on school infrastructures, supplies and teachers make initiating new art classes difficult under the current situation, we help existing educators too add in art and creative elements into their agenda so children can still enjoy the key benefits art brings.
