Kandal កណ្ដាល
Kandal province, although surrounds Cambodia’s capital city Phnom Penh, has many villages that remain on the list of the most remote areas of the country with extreme poverty - most families have only single mothers who lost working capability. These villages, often along rice fields, have water and sanitation problems as the building blocks to break generational poverty. Public schools offer basic education (literature and mathematics), but the students’ poor family conditions prevent them from going to school routinely and receiving the basic education. Local organizations offer school bus and weekly clean water delivery to help local communities and more efforts need to be put into these areas to change the living situations of the community members and their children.
M.Y. Yu Foundation works directly with the local organizations on funding art classes, including supplies and teacher cost, and clean water delivery. So far, we have together increased the frequency of water delivery and used school buses more efficiently.
