Svay Leu ស្រុកស្វាយលើ

Svay Leu is a district not far from Siem Reap. It is consisted of mostly rural villages with unsurfaced roads. All villagers live in wooden, stilted houses along rice fields or farm lands. Almost all families make their livings through farming. The district is approximately 8km from its nearest health center, and most community members need to spend a day on the road to district central market or hospital with the help of a few people who have vehicles.

There are only a few schools in this district - most of them are primary schools with only two classrooms and less than five teachers. Almost all schools do not have access to clean water, meaning the staff and students need to walk to near rivers with buckets and bring back unfiltered water every morning. School buildings, which are made by wood and hays, are in dangerous state with termite damages.

M.Y. Yu Foundation intends to support Svay Leu’s schools and improve basic infrastructures for the teachers and students. We have funded projects including water well building, water filter stand building, school construction improvement and school supplies purchasing.
